One of my favorite and most unique lakes in Arizona is Watson Lake located in Prescott , Arizona. It is one of two reservoirs at the Granite Dells and was formed in the early 1900s when Chino Valley Irrigation District built a dam on Granite Creek. The city of Prescott bought the reservoir and surrounding land in 1997 to preserve it and make it into recreational land. An interesting fact is that it is home to the one and only rowing team in northern Arizona called the Tri-City Prep Rowing crew from a local high school there.
This scenic and photogenic lake is surrounded by Granite Boulders and hiking trails. You can’t swim here, but there are many other things to do including fishing,
boating ,kayaking ,rock climbing and hiking. There are also campgrounds at the lake.
If you are just visiting for the day, I would definitely recommend staying until sunset or even after the sun goes down because the light is incredible on the rock during this time. The difference between daylight and golden hour into sunset at Watson Lake is breathtaking!
